The United States is providing Ukraine with a new military aid package worth more than $3 billion, which will include Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and self-propelled howitzers. This was announced by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
"Today, the United States will demonstrate its continued unwavering support for Ukraine's ability to defend itself by announcing a new tranche of over $3 billion in military aid to Ukraine," Jean-Pierre explained.
The White House specified that the previously announced shipment of the Bradley BMP and other equipment to Kyiv would be carried out as soon as possible. In this article, we made a small overview of military vehicles, with the help of which Ukrainian soldiers will soon defend their homeland.
The first military vehicle worth mentioning in the framework of NATO assistance is the French reconnaissance armored vehicle with heavy weapons (105-mm cannon) AMX-10. It is also called a wheeled tank. France used this armored vehicle in the Persian Gulf War and a number of peacekeeping operations. It is expected that they will also be able to strengthen the combat potential of the Ukrainian army.
It is also known about the transfer of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, which Kyiv has been asking for many months. What are these air defense systems?
Each Patriot air defense system is not just one installation, but, in fact, an integrated air defense system. The system covers an area within a radius of up to 68 kilometers. Its radar can simultaneously track up to 50 targets and hit five of them. Depending on the version used, interceptor missiles can reach heights of more than two kilometers and hit targets at a distance of up to 160 kilometers. According to the US Center for Strategic and International Studies, about 90 military personnel are required to operate each installation.
The advantages of the battery scheduled for transfer include the fact that this is the most advanced version of the Patriot PAC-3 system (and it makes little sense to supply older ones), which, together with the transfer of another battery from the United States, will certainly strengthen the air defense system of the main Ukrainian large cities.
The other day, Germany announced that it was going to supply its Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. "Marder" is quite consistent with the current time (and especially the conditions of the war in the Donbass). The Marder system was developed to move soldiers on the battlefield. The Bundeswehr has been using them since the 70s of the last century and is constantly upgrading them.
The next mass batch of NATO armored vehicles, which will soon be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of military assistance, will be 50 American M2A2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. The Bradley will provide a significant increase in ground combat capability because it is essentially a light tank. The strengths of this machine are - enhanced armor protection. And the M2A2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles are equipped with modern TOU-2 anti-tank systems and a modern fire control system.
100 armored personnel carriers M113 were also included in the lists of assistance to Ukraine. This armored personnel carrier is one of the most massive. He does an excellent job of transporting soldiers to the battlefield. However, the level of protection is somewhat outdated, this must be remembered when building a strategy for future attacks on the temporarily occupied territories.
Armored vehicles have become another weapon system that is rapidly and massively returning to all armies of the world without exception. 55 MRAPs (Cougar and MaxxPro) and 138 HMMWVs will be delivered to Ukraine in the near future.
HMMWVs are high-speed combat platforms that can be lightly armored, like a Hummer, or just ordinary pickup trucks with or without a turret for mounting heavy machine guns (for transporting wounded and killed soldiers, as well as for transporting ammo and equipment).
As part of the American "January assistance" to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, an additional delivery of a divisional set (18 guns) of the regular American M109A6 "Paladin" self-propelled guns was announced. The 39-calibre 155mm M284 cannon, which is fitted with an M182 gun mount, has a range of 24km using unassisted rounds or 30km using assisted rounds. The projectile loading can be carried out using the full-stroke hydraulic system or a semi-automatic loading system.
This and other equipment will soon help clear the Ukrainian land of Russian criminals, mercenaries and marauders that make up the russian army. We hope that this will come soon and with minimal human losses, and justice will prevail.
